Solarize HSG
This project aims to increase the solar power potential of the buildings at the University of St. Gallen. The group currently coordinates the installation of solar panels on the roof of the Executive Campus (WBZ). While only Building 23 of the university is already equipped with a solar roof, many other of the university's roof areas are not - despite that they are ideally suited for PV installations. We want to address this missed potential by building a first-of-its-kind crowfunding campaign to realise a solar roof on the Executive Campus! See more and sign up below to get notified when the campaign launches.

Solar Politics
The buildings of the University of St.Gallen belong to the canton, which decides on infrastructure changes and projects on campus. In order to successfully implement the "Solarize HSG" project, it is therefore very important that the Canton and the University cooperate in order to be able to guarantee a longer-term and sustainable infrastructure of the HSG and to implement the Canton's energy concept 2021 - 2030.
To this end, political initiatives are being pursued, namely a petition and an interpellation. The former is being driven forward by student initiative. The latter will be taken up by cantonal council members in order to ask the government specific questions in the spring session of 2021. Contact |
Community Finance
In order to be able to implement the projects that the students of the MaCS certificate have developed, financial resources are needed. While various funding models are possible, we favor a solution that involves students, staff, alumni, and others interested in the endeavor. In a community financing model, all those who wish to support the project financially can purchase a share. Over the lifetime of the project, they receive a share of the proceeds and contribute to making the HSG's energy supply more sustainable.

Climate Curriculum Development
As an educational & research institution, the University of St. Gallen also has a responsibility to plan and provide for the generation of tomorrow. As global warming is one of the greatest challenges of our time, it is important that students have a basic academic knowledge of solutions and consequences of climate change. Therefore, the goal of the Climate Curriculum Development project is to provide students with more knowledge in this area.
The twelve-member team is currently working on the following three projects:

Solar Art @HSG
The corridors of the University of St. Gallen are bedecked with works by artists such as Arp, Richter and Giacometti. This appreciation of fine art will be continued in the "Solar Art" project. The idea behind the project is to draw attention to renewable energies with the power of art and to express the topic in an artistic way, making it both tangible and visible for visitors to the University of St. Gallen.
The project team is currently in the process of finding a suitable artist for the project. EPFL Lausanne is currently hosting an exhibition in the field of solar art called Watt is Art. Contact |
My CO2 Challenge
The My CO2 Challenge is designed to help students develop an awareness of their personal CO2 footprint and motivate them to reduce it.
With the help of the eevie app, students can choose climate-friendly everyday activities in the areas of consumption, nutrition, living and travel and thus see how much they can reduce their CO2 emissions by sticking to these new habits. Integrated into the newly available SHSG app, a dashboard will aggregate the total CO2 emission savings of participating students, thus showing the university-wide effect. In order to provide support for keeping the pledges taken for a certain period of time, an active community will be established in parallel on a separate platform to exchange tips, tricks and informative content.
