The University of St. Gallen (HSG) is already on its way to transitioning its power supply to eco-friendly energy. In order to reach the national and universities climate goals and rapidly contribute to a more sustainable future, efforts are needed from every single source!
That is why we are campaigning for a solar plant to be installed on the HSG sports hall, which will supply the university, but also the region, with sustainable energy. This year, we are working together with our partner Solarify. A platform on which individuals, companies and organisations can buy our solar panels on the roof of the sports hall in a direct, quick, simple and profitable way. Buy your own panel here! What is it about?
The goal of the MaCS project is a target-oriented and holistic regional campaign to promote the solar investment opportunity. The overall intention is to finance the entire project through the partner Solarify as quickly and efficiently as possible and thus to realize the project.

With this student project, each and every one of us can contribute to the fight against one of the greatest social challenges of our time: climate change. This project contributes to reducing the university's carbon footprint.

As students and future generation, adults, parents, companies and organizations, we have an obligation to live up to the values of sustainability. We can make our university a role model in sustainability and signal to the world that we care about our environment and that we are ready to take concrete action.

The HSG Gym
Students, professors and local residents meet in the HSG sports hall to enjoy exercising together. The gym is rented by the university and run by "Unisport". The roof of the sports centre also holds further sustainable potential: a considerable amount of solar energy can be produced on the large roof surface, while the low height of the building ensures that the solar panels are highly visible and thus that the subject of sustainability is widely recognised, both within the HSG community and beyond. |

What is Solarify? Online-Platform, connecting Investors (Private individuals, companies etc.) with rooftop-owners in Switzerland. Solarify leases the roof, sells the panels, installs the plant, maintains and insures it. The rooftop owner gets a rental fee and green energy. The owner of the panels earn a financial return from the electricity sales. How does it work? Similar to a common online webshop, solarify.ch allows users to browse through all possible projects where panels are currently still for sale. In addition to information about the project, the project length or the roof owner, the platform also provides detailed profitability and impact calculations. For the checkout process, you simply select the number of panels you want to buy and complete the purchase with the payment. How will I benefit? With the purchase, you become the owner of the chosen panels and thus contribute to the sustainable energy transition. In addition, you also profit monetarily from the sale of the produced energy with an annual return of 2-3% over the total project duration. Every 3 months there is a statement with the revenue payments and overviews of the energy production and the environmental impact of it. In addition, all panel owners have access to the online monitoring platform of the plant, where they can track the production at any time. Do I have to install the panels? No, of course not. Solarify sells, installs, insures and maintains the installed solar system. Everything is included in the purchase price! Is there a possibility to sell the panels? Yes, the panels can be sold to Solarify at any time for their residual value reduced by a 5% service fee, or to a third party at no charge. Where are the panels manufactured? The panels are purchased from a Swiss partner of Solarify and installed and maintained by local partners. |
