 MaCS Projects

Students for a sustainable University of St.Gallen (HSG)
In the fall semester of 2020, the certificate 'Managing Climate Solutions' (MaCS) was launched at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). Since then, around 40 master's students from various master's programs complete the certificate each year. The core of this certificate consists of the projects that we design and implement ourselves.

Our Vision

As MaCS students, our vision is not just to talk about theoretical concepts and create PowerPoint presentations without consequences. Instead, we want to actively shape the future of the University of St. Gallen with our ideas and concepts. We aim to contribute to the next generation and develop the university into a sustainable place of learning and knowledge through various projects.

Local scope, global impact

While we often debate how to unite the entire global community on the path to greater climate protection, the impact that local and municipal climate projects have on the environment, but also on how we think and act as a community, is often forgotten.

The municipal level is an important level for the concrete implementation of climate protection goals. There is a wide field of action and a lot of untapped potential. Being strongly connected to the region of St. Gallen and its university, our projects demonstrate the high relevance of climate protection in the area, how climate action can be approached and what can be achieved by deeply collaborating with diverse stakeholders and the citizens.

Our Flagship Projects

The aim of the MaCS projects is to make a contribution to reducing emissions in key areas such as mobility, energy and food or to contribute towards climate education. In doing so, the MaCS students work together with various partners in the St. Gallen region. For instance, the persistent initiative of three MaCS cohorts of students has made it possible to install a large PV system on the HSG sports hall in 2023.
