Project Overview 2020/2021
With these three projects, students of the 2020/2021 cohort of the Managing Climate Solutions certificate contributed to shaping the future of the University of St.Gallen (HSG).
Solarize HSGWith the first cohort of the MaCS, the first student solar project at the university was initiated. Many more were about to follow in the upcoming years. It aimed to install more solar panels on the campus of the University of St. Gallen. So far, solar panels have been successfully installed on Building 23 and the Square. You can find out how much electricity it produces here. The students wanted to explore first what was needed to built up and increase renewable self-sufficient energy production at the university. They were pursuing the option of building an innovative, foldable solar roof over the canteen forecourt. In order to approach the topic in a multifaceted way, various groups have been formed to deal with matters such as political prerequisites and stakeholder management, the financing of such a project and raising awareness through art and marketing projects.

My CO2 ChallengeThe My CO2 Challenge is designed to help students develop an awareness of their personal carbon footprint and motivate them to reduce it. With the help of the eevie app, students can choose climate-friendly everyday activities in the areas of consumption, nutrition, living and travel and thus recognize how high the reduction of their CO2 emissions is by adhering to these new habits. Integrated into the newly available SHSG app, there will be a dashboard that aggregates the total CO2 emission savings of participating students and thus shows the university-wide effect. In order to provide support for sticking to the "pledges" taken for a certain period of time, an active community will be established in parallel on a separate platform to exchange tips, tricks and informative content.

Curriculum developmentAs an educational and research institution, the University of St. Gallen has a responsibility to plan and ensure for the generation of tomorrow. As global warming is one of the greatest challenges of our time, it is important that students have a basic academic knowledge of the solutions and consequences of climate change. Therefore, the aim of the Climate Curriculum Development project is to provide students with more knowledge in this area.
