Project Overview 2023/2024

Students of the 2023/2024 cohort of the Managing Climate Solutions certificate aim to implement eight projects in the spring semester 2024. These initiatives contribute to shaping the future of the University of St.Gallen (HSG). Stay tuned to learn more about the various projects!

Climate Solutions Biodiversity Trail

The students created a climate solutions biodiversity trail on campus, showcasing what crucial role plants on and around the HSG campus play in adapting to climate change. The  trail is created with Actionbound, an interactive app that allows users to participate in digital scavenger hunts known as 'bounds'. Stay tuned to discover the HSG campus in a way you have never done before.

Climate Adaptation City

We enable others to implement climate adaptation projects in St. Gallen through our practical handbook. It provides insights into lessons learned from hands-on experience, key stakeholders, and inspiration for future projects. With our experience in trying to transform underused urban spaces into vibrant community squares, fostering biodiversity, social interaction, and climate resilience, we collaborated with key stakeholders like city departments, Grünes Gallustal, and WWF St. Gallen to develop strategies and recommendations guiding future projects in greening, awareness, and infrastructure

MaCS Fund

Present Challenge: Despite the promising ideas generated by MaCS students, they often face setbacks due to the high capital requirements. In response, a team of MaCS students came up with the idea of a MaCS Fund. The MaCS Fund operates as a direct donation model, propelling high-impact projects and cultivating an environment without constraints for groundbreaking climate solution ideas. With the MaCS Fund, MaCS students can turn green ambitions into action.

Climate Education

The team has the aim to open up the campus to young St. Gallen residents of the BZGS and to organise an afternoon that raises awareness of climate change and solutions in an interesting and accessible way. Lecturers, student associations and startups from HSG that are centered around climate action will make for an insightful program.

 Climate-Night 2024

The team organises the Climate-Night 2024 on May 14th in St. Gallen. The event starts at 19.00 at TheStage with a panel discussion featuring experts Mirco Heidemann (Project Manager Corporate Sustainability Helvetia), Patrizia Egloff (Energietal Toggenburg), Mathias Inhelder (Grünes Gallustal) and Freddy Zaug (Departement Environment and Energy, City of St. Gallen). They will explore how local net zero goals are achievable. Entry is free - apéro and drinks are included!
At 21.00 the evening continues with the movie program at Basketballplatz Brühltor. The guests can enjoy the film "Little Yellow Boots" with all equipment powered entirely by solar energy.

The objective is to make knowledge and solutions more tangible and accessible through auditory and visual media, enhancing awareness about climate change. The event aims to highlight the efficacy of sustainable solutions in addressing climate challenges, creating a sustainable showcase for environmental consciousness. See you there!

Climate Master

Climate change is the biggest problem of our generation. What role will HSG play to fight it? The MaCS students firmly believe that HSG should offer a specialized Master's degree dedicated to climate solutions. The student team leading the Climate Master initiative aims to successfully conclude the initial phase of conceptualizing a Climate Master program at HSG.

Solar Push

The Problem: Citizens in St.Gallen do not produce their own electricity with solar panels even though it is necessary, affordable and they have suitable roofs. THEY NEED A PUSH!
Our aim is to proactively push house owners to consider and install PV. We strive to shift the perspective from "if" to "when" in the decision-making process
